Looking for a Roller Alternative? Why Sailia is the Best Choice

If you run an attraction or an activity venue, ROLLER and Sailia will both end up on your shortlist. They cover a lot of the same ground and they are both good at it.

They are not the same shape, though. Both cover the guest journey properly: booking, arrival, spend. The difference is what sits behind it. Sailia also runs the operation, meaning the sessions, the staff, the qualifications, the kit and the memberships, in the same system that sold the ticket.

The other difference is commercial. ROLLER is the incumbent and prices like it. We do enterprise and multi-site too, we would just rather grow with you than charge you more for growing.

So rather than tell you we win on everything, here is the actual comparison. Where they overlap, where each one has the edge, and who we think should pick which.

Where they overlap

More than you might expect. Both platforms do:

Online checkout and ticketing, both built to convert. Point of sale. Self-service kiosks. Digital waivers signed before arrival. Memberships and gift cards. Capacity and session management. Access control and wristbands. Multi-site management from one place. Real-time reporting dashboards. Integrated payments.

If your requirements list stops there, either platform will do the job and you should pick on price and on how the demo feels.

Where ROLLER has the edge

Two things, and neither is about what the software can do.

Support coverage hours. They run 24/7 live chat and phone globally. We answer in minutes during our hours, and our customers rate us on speed rather than clock coverage, but if you trade overnight across time zones, weigh it.

F&B and arcade partners. If food and beverage or arcade is central to your venue, check both partner lists against your existing hardware before you decide.

That is the list. The third thing people usually name is that ROLLER has been around since 2010, which is fair but is not a feature. Familiarity is why a lot of venues shortlist them. It is not the same as being the better fit.

Where Sailia is stronger

Staff scheduling and labour cost. This is our biggest single difference. In Sailia, a booking knows which qualification it needs, who holds it and who is available, then staffs the session itself and allocates the kit. Clock in and out is built in, so you can see what a session cost to run against what it earned. ROLLER customers ask for this: one district manager notes there is no clock in and out feature to track payroll, which he calls the biggest expense he can actually control.

Direct Debit memberships. We collect membership payments by Direct Debit as standard, so a lost or reissued card does not quietly break the payment. This is a specific ask in ROLLER's reviews, where one managing director asks for GoCardless-style collection for exactly that reason.

Everything included. Sailia has no tiers. Marketing pixels, dynamic pricing, automated comms, the API, multi-lingual checkout, all on from day one. ROLLER runs four plans and some tools sit higher up the range, which their customers do comment on.

Courses, progression and kit. If you run multi-week courses, skill progression or anything that needs equipment allocated per session, that is native for us and thin in most ticketing-first platforms.

Accommodation. Native, or linked to your PMS. ROLLER does not cover this.

Enterprise and multi-site. We run large, multi-site operations, with enterprise pricing, formal SLAs and procurement-ready contracts. Migration for a big group is phased and runs with zero downtime, so bookings, memberships and payments stay live while we move site by site. Being newer than ROLLER does not mean smaller scale, it means the platform was built for how venues operate now.

Languages. Sailia is multi-lingual front and back office. ROLLER's back office is English, which one German operator flags as something his team works around.

We are invested in you growing. This is the philosophical difference and it shows up everywhere. ROLLER's model earns more as you grow, through tiers and commission, which is why their reviews keep circling back to value for money. We would rather help you sell more and keep more of it. That means the marketing tools, the pixels, the automated comms and the API are just on, not sold back to you once you are big enough to need them.

Pricing compared

ROLLER runs four subscription tiers, publicly reported in the region of $300 to $800 a month depending on plan, with usage fees billed separately in arrears, merchant processing on top, and implementation available as a paid add-on. Verify the current numbers with them directly, because published figures vary by source.

Sailia gives you a choice of model. Usage-based, so what you pay tracks what you take, or an annual licence with enterprise pricing and an SLA if procurement needs one. Implementation is included.

Which works out cheaper genuinely depends on your volumes and which ROLLER tier you would land on. A high-volume venue on usage-based pricing can end up paying more with us than a flat subscription, and we will tell you that rather than let you find out later. Send us your numbers and we will model both.

Worth knowing either way: value for money is the theme that comes up most often in ROLLER's critical reviews, including from customers who otherwise like the product.

Support

ROLLER's support is well rated overall at 4.2, with 24/7 live chat and phone coverage globally. Several customers describe onboarding as excellent.

The pattern in their critical reviews is about consistency later on. Some operators report customer success going quiet after the first year, or replies arriving after the issue has passed. That is not everyone's experience, but it comes up enough to be worth asking about on your reference calls.

We are a small team, so support is live chat answered in minutes by someone who knows the product. Sailia is rated 5* on external review sites.

Migration

Both platforms will move your data. The difference is how.

We run alongside your existing system and move you across in stages, with bookings, memberships, gift cards, waivers and payments live throughout. No cutover weekend. Single site, days. A large multi-site group with years of membership history takes months, and anyone quoting you a fortnight has not looked at your data.

Who should pick which

Pick ROLLER if you need overnight support coverage across time zones, or your F&B or arcade hardware only integrates on their side.

Pick Sailia if you run instructor-led sessions, courses or camps alongside tickets, staff cost and rota are a real part of your problem, you want memberships collected by Direct Debit, you sell accommodation, you operate in more than one language, or you would rather not have features sitting behind a plan upgrade.

Either works if you are a mid-size venue selling timed tickets, parties and memberships with no session staffing complexity. At that point it comes down to price and preference, and you should demo both.

Get in touch here and we will give you a straight answer on whether we are the right fit.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sailia cheaper than ROLLER? It depends on your volumes and which ROLLER tier you would be on. Send us your numbers and we will model both models against them honestly, including the cases where we are not cheaper.

Can Sailia do everything ROLLER does? Yes, and more, at any size. We run large multi-site operations with enterprise pricing and formal SLAs. The honest caveats are support coverage hours and F&B or arcade hardware partners, both worth checking against your setup.

Do you have tiers or premium features? No. One product, everything on.

Can you do Direct Debit for memberships? Yes, natively, so payments keep collecting when a card is lost or reissued.

Do you handle staff scheduling? Yes. Sessions are staffed automatically by qualification and availability, with clock in and out built in.

Will we lose data migrating from ROLLER? No. We move bookings, customers, memberships, gift cards and waivers, and run alongside ROLLER until you switch off.

How long does it take to switch? Single site, days. Large multi-site groups take months, because the data is genuinely complex. Either way, no downtime.
